POSTER NOT FIT FOR DISPLAY

(2005), PG-13 [R-13*] -- eye candy for the young teen boy ... yet one more "R-13."

A long-time standard parents have used to teach their kids where others should not touch or see was the areas of the body covered by a bathing suit. Not 'ny more. At least not by the bathing suits in this film. The suits, magnified by the use of camera angle to force the viewer on private parts, appeared for the most part -- what there was of it -- to be token. It was exhibitionism galore, eye candy for the young teen boy to plant unclean thoughts and desires in his mind. [Matt. 5:28, Luke 17:2, Ps. 141:4, 3John 11]

And this film could not have been more "R." With a final score of 19 out of 100 when R-rated films in the comparative baseline database ranged 54 and below out of 100, this film fits squarely into R-equivalence -- into the lower half of the R-equivalence. And it is all fit for your young teens, so sayeth the MPAA and their questionable survey techniques and questionable survey population. It doesn't matter what mom/dad say, dontchaknow? Gotta accept what others say is fit for your kids, right? Wrong!

A group of divers, Jared (Paul Walker), Samantha (Jessica Alba - Sin City ). Bryce (Scott Caan) and Amanda (Ashley Scott) find a shipwreck that turns out to have on board mucho gold from yesteryear. But on their way to finding the treasure, they find a downed aircraft with much drugs ... drugs the owner wanted back. Badly.

This film is still playing at theaters but since it has been more than two weeks since its opening, I am not going to spend a lot of time on a discussion about the plot and story.

This film presents the full gambit of sin-ematic ignominy: violence [Prov. 16:29, Rom. 12:18, Prov. 13:2, Ps. 62:10]; foul language [2 Tim. 2:16, Eccl. 5:2]; sexual immorality [1 John 2:26]; consumption of alcoholic beverages, drugs and drugs references including possession and consumption of illegal drugs [Eph. 5:18]; several uses of God's name in vain, mostly without the four letter expletive and once with it [Deut. 5:11]; a few murders, some graphic. [Nahum 3:1]

Five of the six CAP investigation areas: Wanton Violence/Crime (W); Impudence/Hate (I); Sexual Immorality (S); Drugs/Alcohol (D); Offense to God (O) investigation areas found enough assaults on morality and decency to each earn a zero score. In fact, the content revealed by the Murder/Suicide (M) investigation area was the only investigation area which earned a score equivalent to PG-13 films in the comparative baseline database. The final score of 19 earned this film a score which makes it clearly yet one more "R-13" . The influence density score confirms the "R-13" status of Into the Blue. R-rated films in the comparative baseline database earned influence density scores from 0.78 to 2.04, the larger the figure the more dense the assaults on morality and decency.

CHAPTER/VERSE

  • Matt. 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
  • Ps. 141:4 Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies.
  • 3John 11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good... [Sin is evil. There is no sin from God. All sin is of the father of sin.
  • Prov. 16:29 A violent man entices his neighbor and leads him down a path that is not good. [God knew about the influence of example long before we did. And a bad influence does not have to be real to influence badly.]
  • Rom. 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you [as far as it depends on you], live peaceably with all men.
  • Prov. 13:2 From the fruit of his lips a man enjoys good things, but the unfaithful have a craving for violence.
  • Ps. 62:10 Do not trust in extortion or take pride in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
  • 2 Tim. 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
  • Eccl. 5:2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing [rash or vile] before God [who is omnipresent]: ...
  • 1 John 2:26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you [An example of "them" might be they who demonstrate sexual sin in and as entertainment that can lead you astray, such as leading you or desensitizing you to believe sexually immoral deeds, thoughts and display are acceptable and feel they have done nothing wrong. This leads into Prov. 30:12 "There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness." and Prov. 30:20 "Such is the way of an adulterous woman (or man); she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.]
  • Eph. 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. ["Wine" can be any intoxicating substance including illegal drugs or abuse of prescription drugs. This issue is do not get drunk. Though it is not a sin to drink, it is a sin to get drunk OR to influence to get drunk or to drink in defiance. A study by the American College of Physicians (ACP) has found an undeniable link between the presentation of alcoholic beverages and tobacco in and as entertainment and abuse of them by adolescents. And teaching/causing youth to abuse alcohol/tobacco (or drugs) by emboldening youth with them in and as entertainment invokes Luke 17:2]
  • Deut. 5:11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. [Vain is shav' {shawv}: emptiness, nothingness, vanity, such as an expletive. With or without the four letter expletive, the use of God's name in any way other than respect, reverence or thoughtful discussion is in vain. That includes the popular three syllable sentence with His name trailing it AND the misuse of Jesus' name.]
  • Nahum 3:1 Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims!
  • Ezek. 22:12 In thee have they taken gifts to shed blood; thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord GOD.

***Selected Scriptures of Armour against the influence of the entertainment industry***
  • Ps. 12:8 The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men [e.g., create progressively vile/offensive entertainment with impunity and no consequences to younger and younger audiences every year when enough people continue to defend it, embrace it, pay for it, enjoy it, want it].
  • Col. 2:8 Beware lest any man [by his influence] spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
  • 1 Cor. 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
  • Rom. 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
  • Jude 1:4 For there are certain men* crept in unawares [secretly slipped in among you], who were before of old ordained to this condemnation [whose condemnation was written about long ago], ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness [a license for immorality], and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. [*men: anthropos {anth'-ro-pos}, generic, a human being, whether male or female]
  • Matt. 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto [or for] one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto [or for] me.
  • Luke 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. ["Offend": skandalizo - to entice to sin; to cause a person to begin to distrust and desert one whom he ought to trust and obey; to cause to fall away. "Little ones": mikros - little;, small of age; younger which can include at-home teens].
  • Ps. 119:133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me [let no sin rule over me].
  • John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
  • 1 Thess. 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. ["Evil" includes all things that are sinful.]

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our more than eight years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings.
