SUMMARY / COMMENTARY:

*House on Haunted Hill* (R) -- a horror flick with modern ethics and morality.

Some folks who do not understand the CAP ministry wonder why a Christian ministry would analyze R-rated movies. *House on Haunted Hill* is yet another example of why. When I watched this movie, many of the patrons were clearly under 17 years old. Some were not yet even teens. When I watched *Music from the Heart*, I noted that more adolescents watched *House on Haunted Hill* than were watching *Music from the Heart (PG). By talking with a mother who took her four adolescent sons to see *South Park: BLU*, if she had known the true content of the movie, she would not have come let alone would she have brought her sons with her. Now, with the CAP Entertainment Media Analysis Reports, parents can know the true content of movies. And, in the same vein as the all-are-welcome policy each church should extend to everyone, our service is for non-Christian parents and grandparents as well as for Christian parents and grandparents.

In a quest for a quick million bucks, five entrepreneurs were invited by trickery of unseen forces to spend the night in the house on haunted hill; an old asylum said to be possessed by the souls of the multitude who died -- er -- were murdered in it by being burned to death many years ago. All that was required of each guest to get a million bucks was to spend the night in the house. Sounds simple enough and certainly acceptable for $1,000,000, right? However, the trick was not only to spend the night but to *survive* the night. A twist to the 'rules' was that if any did not live, the survivors could divvy up the unclaimed prize. Not all of them survived, of course.

To many of our visitors who have sent us hate mail and death threats since our analysis of South Park: BLU in July who say movies are a reflection of real life, I will speak in a "real life" voice with Real Life love for you. All manner of foul language was spoken by the actors and actresses -- repeatedly. An actor/actresses pair participated in vulgar impropriety. One of the actors portrayed drinking a large quantity of booze often to relieve fear. Some of the actors and actresses portrayed waving and discharging of firearms to intimidate and to kill for personal gain. The choreographers and computer staff presented evil and vile imagery of nightmarish proportion. Some actresses permitted the camera to photograph for public display and for pay their gender-specific parts without clothing. The computer illustrators presented nude female forms as well. And this is not to mention that all involved in the production of the movie participated in presenting evil and demonic horrors which are certainly outside the wishes of our Lord. Phillipians 4:8 tells us: "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." And Gal. 5:19 through 21 tell us "Now the [sinful] works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like........] Get the point?

I am NOT speaking in a holier-than-thou voice. I pray that something I say will finally get through to you. God's wishes for you do not include lusting after the hollow and cheap excitement such as that found in movies like *House on Haunted Hill*. If you find yourself looking for some pure and very rich and fulfilling excitement in life and just can't seem to find it, why not try this real soon if you have not yet given your heart to Christ. Walk into a church, listen to what the pastor has to say, and when he gives the call, get up and walk the walk to the altar. The pastor will be delighted to help you. And even if you just can't yet invite Jesus into your heart...not just yet...walk the walk anyway and tell the pastor you'd like to know more! Just do it! I suspect you'll be Real glad you did. Even if you have given your heart to Jesus, why not walk the isle to ask Jesus for a stronger presence in your life?

So many of our visitors seem to be relying only on this Summary/Commentary for a full assessment of this movie. This is not possibble. For the best representation of the CAP Entertainment Media Analysis Model applied to this movie, visit the Findings/Scoring section below.
