NOTE: The CAP Analysis Model makes no scoring allowances for trumped-up "messages" to excuse or for manufacturing of justification for aberrant behavior or imagery, or for camouflaging such ignominy with "redeeming" programming. Disguising sinful behavior in a theme plot does not excuse the sinful behavior of either the one who is drawing pleasure from the sinful display or the practitioners demonstrating the sinful behavior. This is NOT a movie review service. It is a movie analysis service to parents and grandparents to tell them the truth about movies using the Truth. If you do not want the plot, ending, or "secrets" of a movie spoiled for you, skip the Summary/Commentary. In any case, be sure to visit the Findings/Scoring section -- it is purely objective and is the heart of the CAP Entertainment Media Analysis Model applied to this movie

"There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." [Emphasis is mine] And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I aplaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our five-year study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings.

If Scriptural references appear, the full text appears at the end of the Summary / Commentary likely using a mix of KJV and NIV.

SUMMARY / COMMENTARY:

BOUNCE -- a widowed woman bouncing back from her husband's death.

Bounce is a romance story of a cocky man, Buddy Amaral (Ben Affleck) who felt responsible for the well-being of the family of a Greg Janello (Tony Goldwyn) who died in the crash of flight 82 because he gave Greg his ticket to flight 82.

Due to weather, Chicago O'Hare flights were being canceled left and right. Greg let himself be bumped from the fatal flight 82 in exchange for two free round trip tickets to anywhere. During a bonding episode in an airport bar stranded passengers Buddy, Mimi (Natasha Henstridge) and Greg share a bonding experience which involves Mimi video taping Buddy and Greg together trying to make light of the inconveniences caused by the flight cancellations. Greg is called to board his new flight, leaving Buddy and Mimi alone together, then Mimi makes it clear to Buddy that she would enjoy sharing her airport hotel room with him for the night -- since they were going to be stranded overnight, why not "make the best" of it [Prov. 7:25]. Finding the offer one he can't refuse [Prov. 7:22-23, Matt. 26:41], Buddy rushes to catch Greg to give him his ticket for flight 82. A few connectivity scenes of Greg aboard flight 82 are the last we see of him. A few scenes of Greg's wife, Abby (Gwyneth Paltrow) give the viewer a little added perspective and connectivity. She portrays a sort of psychic connection and feels something has gone wrong -- terribly wrong.

Some time later, in a move of deception [1Pet. 2:1], Buddy finds and befriends Abby to soothe his self-imposed responsibility to her and her children. Abby has become a real estate agent. This is very convenient for Buddy since he is looking for new housing for his ad agency. Buddy arranges for Abby to be the agent for the purchase of the property which Buddy and his partner had already decided they wanted, just so Abby could earn the commission. And from that maneuver grew a warm but guarded relationship -- for a while. Then all stops were lifted. Except the truth about Buddy's relationship to Greg. That comes at an unexpected moment. Mimi shows up with the tape made at O'Hare.

Under all the foul language [Col. 3:8], sexual issues [1Cor. 6:18] and other ignominy is a tender love story but attuned to the new age ethics. Though not as dense as most R-rated movies, there is every manner of foul language in addition to masked intercourse with partial nudity (twice) in this "R-13." The lying [Prov. 6:16-19], including coercing a child to lie [Luke 17:2], gave a quite smeared face to this otherwise good sniffle flick. And there was promotion of homosexuality as acceptable and routine [1Cor. 6:9-10, Rom. 1:24-28, 32]. The listing in Findings/Scoring will tell it all.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • 1 Cor. 15:33 (KJV) Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. (NIV) Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.
  • Prov. 7:25 Do not let your heart turn to her (the seductress) ways or stray into her paths. [Comment: It is as much a sin for a man to seek or submit to immoral sex as it is for a woman to give it.]
  • Prov. 7:22-23 All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.
  • Matt. 26:41 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.
  • 1Pet. 2:1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.
  • Col. 3:8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
  • 1Cor. 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
  • Prov. 6:16-19 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.
  • Luke 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
  • 1Cor. 6:9-10 Do you not know that the [unforgiven] wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the [unforgiven] sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
  • Rom. 1:24-28, 32 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator -who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. ... Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
