A Miracle for Bill

Jesus is Lord Crossbar

November 20, 1996

In a response to a prayer request of my own to Kevin and Sally Muller of Australia, Sally provided encouragement for me in the form of a personal account of a miracle our Lord and Christ performed through Kevin and Sally. This is most certainly testimony to the Power and Authority of our Lord, Jesus, and to His wisdom in using His children to work His will for His children. This accounting of His Love is verbatim from Sally's report to me.
My testimony to answered prayer.

I would like to dedicate this testimony of answered prayer to my father, Mervyn Poyser. He passed away on the 8.6.96. His hospitalisation and passing has made this answer to prayer possible.

On notification of my dad's hospitalisation, my loved ones and I were quick to get to his side. As I think back now to the last three days of dad's life, I realise that there is a time for everything and God's timing is always perfect. Through dad's passing God made a way for someone else to live. On walking into the hospital ward where dad lay, it didn't take long to see the pathetic situations of the men in the other beds. There was so much sadness and heartache going on in the ward around us, we were stunned by the intensity of it all. It just seemed unreal! We were constantly going to the aid of someone in another bed who desperately needed encouragement and help.

Bill, the fellow in the bed next to dad's, always remained the most desperate figure through it all and needed more help and encouragement than anyone else.

Bill had once been an extremely vital man and had done a lot of good in the community but since his debilitating stroke, his very movements were curtailed. He couldn't talk cohesively at all or even eat properly. He had to be turned over in bed, sat up at the appropriate times and lifted into his chair. So much had been taken from him - his very dignity.

Unknown to Bill, our prayer went up to the Almighty God to intervene in his pathetic situation. We prayed the trinity prayer (for ourselves first and then) for Bill. - The forgiveness of his sins through the precious blood of Jesus, the light of the Holy Spirit and the peace of God the Father, to come into his heart and life. Shortly after this prayer, as Bill lay there on his bed, a song was sung over the television. - The 23rd psalm. Bill managed to put his hands together as in prayer and he suddenly sat up unaided! A little miracle! Bill couldn't sit up on his own. He only did it the once and wasn't able to do it again so we all wondered?...

Since his stroke, Bill was unable to talk coherently but he had been gifted with a lovely singing voice and amazingly, because his mind had memorised the words of the songs he used to sing, it was no trouble at all for him to sing, - and sing he did with great gusto! In fact we all sang with him when ever we could. The whole ward, even dad, and even the ones who were just visiting would sing along. His lovely singing voice was so infectious!

But when dad died, even at the very moment of dad's death - the curtains were around Bill's bed too because he was having another seizure and the sisters and doctors were working so hard to keep him alive.

Our precious father passed away just after sunset but Bill lived on. Yet when dad died, a part of Bill died too. He still had his singing voice, but he found it very hard to sing, not because he couldn't, but because he had lost heart. He seemed to go downhill rapidly after that and to all who saw, it seemed inevitable that Bill would die, in fact it became so obvious that the doctors even told him that he couldn't ever get better, that he would never walk again.

Bill and his wife cried for hours after that news but we couldn't let him go. We continued desperately and persistently in praying for him. Through those constant prayers, a miracle happened! To everyone's surprise and joy, the next day Bill just got up and walked! - It was nothing but a miracle! His progress from that time on was steady and continuous.

A little later, he talked ! - another miracle, and he told us that he had prayed! - The biggest miracle of all. Prayer worked when nothing else could. God put His fighting spirit inside Bill and it never let him down. God's love will never let him go. Bill was so close to dying but God was there with him. "Thou you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will be there with you..." Prayer brought about Bill's joy of living.

Bill went home from hospital just 14 weeks after our first prayer for him. A day of joy and celebration.

Bill is just an ordinary person, as I am, but God loves ordinary people. To Him none of us are ordinary, - we are special! Very, very special! He loves us with an everlasting love no matter who we are or what we might do. God wants to help us through our problems but quite often we don't have, because we don't ask.

John 16:24 says "Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete."

Psalm 107:15 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

Through this answered prayer, I give praise to an awesome God - 'God of the impossible', - My God!

Sally Muller.
