TWO CAN PLAY AT THAT GAME (PG-13) -- 81 times per hour!

I cannot remember much about the movie since this analysis has been rightfully delayed due to my attention to the terrorist attack. But as before with movies I could not remember for whatever reasons, most likely because they were easily forgettable, I need no memory to build the Findings/Scoring section. All that is needed for it is the logs and the computer program. But I will tell you as much as I remember about this uniquely scoring movie.

Two Can Play at that Game is a tale of two business executives playing a game. But this game has no victor or looser. It is the game of love. Each tries his and her best to best the other in trickery and getting even. Shante Smith (Vivica Fox) has a boyfriend, Keith Fenton (Morris Chestnut). Both are in love but when Shante discovers Keith has taken a "business associate" ultra gorgeous Conny Spaulding (Gabrielle Union) out to Shante and Keith's special romantic restaurant, Shante launches scheme after scheme -- to teach Keith a lesson. Now, Keith being the self-reliant professional he is, he counters Shante's every move with an equally devastating campaign.

Christian Media News

And all through this is Tony (Anthony Anderson), Keith's partner, confidante and master guru in the affairs of love and how to manipulate the target into submission and acceptance. Time after time Tony anticipates Shante's moves and counsels Keith on the how-to's of love games. Shante modulates the frequency of her shields to reflect the advances right back at the Keith/Tony pair. And as aides to Shante, three girls serve Shante as strategists and ordinance officers firing Shante's love lasers at every opportunity.

A Singles
Christian Network

This was in many ways a delightful and indeed funny romance story. But foul and vulgar language bombarded the viewer at rate of more than one per minute: 81 times per hour! [Eph. 5:4] Sexual issues such as innuendo, comments, talk (some quite vulgar), excessive cleavage, vulgar pelvic thrusts, homosexual suggestions, inappropriate touch and a threat of sexual immorality to manipulate peppered the screen at 31 examples per hour in this 100-minute movie.

For Everything Christian

There is at least one advantage to this movie. It is constructed in such a way as to reveal one of the finer features of the CAP analysis model. The score Wanton Violence/Crime, this movie was equivalent to G-rated programming as was the score in Murder/Suicide and Offense to God. Its score in Drugs/Alcohol was the only one mathematically equivalent to PG-13 programming [Gal. 5:21]. However, the scores in Impudence/Hate (which includes foul language) and in Sex/Homosexuality, Two Can Play at that Game are zero [Jude 4;1Cor. 7:2]. R-rated programming earns from 54 to zero. And look at the Influence Density figure - 2.09! R-rated movies typically earn CAP ID scores from 1.5 to 3.0, the lower the ID score the lesser the corruptive influence. There is a fine tuning of the offensive programming possible only with the CAP Entertainment Media Analysis Model!

  • Eph. 5:4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
  • Gal. 5:21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
  • 1Cor. 7:2 But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.

    *******Food for Thought*******
  • 1 Cor. 15:33 (KJV) Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. (NIV) Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.
  • Jude 4 For certain men* whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. [*men: anthropos {anth'-ro-pos}, generic, a human being, whether male or female]

As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie.

NOTE: The CAP Analysis Model makes no scoring allowances for trumped-up "messages" to excuse or for manufacturing of justification for aberrant behavior or imagery, or for camouflaging such ignominy with "redeeming" programming. Disguising sinful behavior in a theme plot does not excuse the sinful behavior of either the one who is drawing pleasure from the sinful display or the practitioners demonstrating the sinful behavior. This is NOT a movie review service. It is a movie analysis service to parents and grandparents to tell them the truth about movies using the Truth.

"There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our five-year study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings.

    (1) As noted in CAP Special Report-001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," of the six CAP Investigation Areas, Impudence/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

    (2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary without God's name in vain is incorporated into the Impudence/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name with or without the four letter expletive is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area. There is no duplication.

    (3) Only portrayal of successful murder or suicide are incorporated into Murder/Suicide. Portrayal of attempts to commit murder or suicide and deaths by police action or war are incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime.
