Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home CAP Thermometers

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was true to the Star Trek theme of an impressive science fiction flick. If it were not for the unacceptable behavior in accordance with the Impunity/Hate and Offense to God CAP Investigation Areas, this would have been a fine family flick for the sci-fi buffs. But, in keeping with the trend of entertainment media reveled by CAP Special Report-0001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," Star Trek IV had its share of 'up yours' and 'flip-off' material(1) along with a ton or two of material offensive to God's Truth and Light.(2) While some unacceptable material was found in Wanton Violence/Crime (W), Sex/Homosedxuality (S), and Drugs/Alcohol (D), no extreme examples were found. No examples of unacceptable material were found at all in Murder/Suicide (M).(3) But the sheer numbers of examples in Impunity/Hate (I) and Offense to God (O) drained the Final Score.

In accordance with the comparative baseline data, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was equivalent to R-rated material in Impunity/Hate and PG-13 material in Offense to God. The movie presented material equivalent to G material in Wanton Violence/Crime, Sex/Homosexuality, Drugs/Alcohol, and Murder/Suicide. Thus, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was equivalent to the comparative baseline data corresponding to 17% R-rated material, 17% PG-13 material, and 66% G-rated material.

Below is the table showing the scoring in each of the Investigation Areas plus the Final Score drawn from the actual CAP Report. In addition, the number of examples per hour of unacceptable material in each of the Investigation Areas is provided.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home CAP Scorecard

(1) As noted in CAP Special Report-0001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend" Impunity/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. I pray you will find time to read Special Report-0001. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

(2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary is incorporated into the Impunity/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name in vain with and without the three/four letter word vocabulary is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area.

(3) If observed, attempts to commit murder or suicide are incorporated into the Wanton Violence/Crime CAP Investigation Area. Successful murder or suicide is incorporated into the Murder/Suicide CAP Investigation Area.
