SUMMARY / COMMENTARY:

If Scriptural references appear, the full text appears at the end of the Summary / Commentary likely using a mix of KJV and NIV.

ALL OF ME (PG) -- saturation with "lite" sex.

ALL OF ME (PG) -- saturation with "lite" sex. I was asked to prepare an analysis of *All of Me* for presentation to a public school Ethics Committee since this movie was shown to a 7th, 8th,and 9th grade Orchestra class. Why was it shown to an orchestra class? Only the teacher knows for sure. Steve Martin played Roger Cobb, a lawyer who was also a jazz band member part time. And one part of the movie showed a band of about 25 musicians playing at a rich party.

Christian Media News

But this show was NOT about music and orchestral arrangements. Absolutely no contrapunal composition, monophony, homophony or polyphony was discussed. What was presented was a t-o-n of sexual immorality. While the request to analyze this movie was due to fears that it might further the homosexual lifestyle, I found nothing to suggest or express any form of homosexuality or lesbianism in it. What I *did* find was about 26 examples per hour of heterosexual immorality [1Ths. 4:2-5, 1Cor. 6:18 ].

Lilly Tomlin played rich recluse, Edwina Cutwater isolated from life due to ill health from birth. She was so fed up with not being able to dance, skip, play like the other kids that she hired an east Indian guru. The guru was, upon her death which was expected soon, to put Cutwater's soul into a supposedly willing young woman, Terry Hawkins (Victoria Tennant) whose own soul would flitter off to oblivion and "become one with the universe." Though comedic, such programming is defiant of and desensitizing to God's Will for us after mortal death -- eternal life in His Kingdom [2Pet 3:9].

Such sexual vulgarity was presented that it is hard to understand how the Classification and Rating Administration (the predecessor of the MPAA) could find this material suitable for young kids. One of the exceptionally vulgar dialogues of the movie included Tomlin (as Cutwater) having a conversation with Martin (as Cobb) about fondling his male member while doing it. While no genitals were seen, the dialogue was in very graphic detail. Another example of sexual impropriety was Martin giving Tennant a spanking while both were dressed only in underwear and on a bed after stripping each other to their underwear, her underwear being very revealing. And second only to sexual immorality was the use of foul and sometimes vulgar language [Titus 2:6-8].

For Everything Christian

Many of you will remember my discussion regarding an apparently new technique of the movie makers. the "new" technique seemed to be of stuffing their movies with tons of "lesser" ignominy to get the same effect of a R-rated movie without the R in order to get the "younger dollars" as well. Maybe it is not so new. This movie was a perfect template of using, e.g., 100 examples of "lesser" corruptive programming worth only 10 "Bads" each to get the same effect of an R-rated flick using 10 issues of boldly invasive programming worth 100 "Bads" each. While each of the "lesser" bad issues are, on the surface, not as invasive as immoral material typically used in R-rated movies, the magnitude is still 1000.

I will let the listing in the Findings/Scoring section itemize the issues of immoral programming found.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ].
  • 1Ths. 4:2-5 For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God;
  • 1Cor. 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
  • 2Pet 3:9 The Lord is not slack [to delay; be slow; to render slowly; to retard; to be long; to tarry, loiter] concerning his promise [eternal life in Paradise through the Precious Blood of Jesus], as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish [metaph. to devote or give over to eternal misery in hell], but that all should come to repentance.
  • Titus 2:6-8 Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

    *******Food for Thought*******
  • 1 Cor. 15:33 (KJV) Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. (NIV) Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.
  • Jude 4 For certain men* whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. [*men: anthropos {anth'-ro-pos}, generic, a human being, whether male or female]

NOTE: The CAP Analysis Model makes no scoring allowances for trumped-up "messages" to excuse or for manufacturing of justification for aberrant behavior or imagery, or for camouflaging such ignominy with "redeeming" programming. Disguising sinful behavior in a theme plot does not excuse the sinful behavior of either the one who is drawing pleasure from the sinful display or the practitioners demonstrating the sinful behavior. This is NOT a movie review service. It is a movie analysis service to parents and grandparents to tell them the truth about movies using the Truth.

"There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I aplaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our five-year study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings.

    (1) As noted in CAP Special Report-001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," of the six CAP Investigation Areas, Impudence/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

    (2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary without God's name in vain is incorporated into the Impudence/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name with or without the four letter expletive is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area. There is no duplication.

    (3) Only portrayal of successful murder or suicide are incorporated into Murder/Suicide. Portrayal of attempts to commit murder or suicide and deaths by police action or war are incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime.
