Again I say the MPAA is morally dead. I haven't completed the number crunching yet but if I were a betting man I could easily bet this Stay Alive is another R-13 . We'll see. I'm off to crunch the numbers.
.
.
.
Toldyaso. Due to content, Stay Alive earned a final score of 17 out of 100. Very few of the hundreds of PG-13 movies we have analyzed have earned scores that low. Most R-rated films do not earn final scores that low. It is not possible to say the abysmal score was "due mainly to..." If I did I would have to say "due mainly to violence, gore, profanity, sexual immorality including intercourse, God's name in vain with the four letter expletive, evil/unholy things and behaviors and murder with bloody gore."

Of the six CAP investigation areas, only the content revealed by the Drugs/Alcohol investigation area earned a PG-13 score. The content revealed by all the five other investigation areas earned R-rated scores, mostly zero as shown in the CAP thermometers. Do you really want your 13 year olds to watch such "entertainment", mom/dad? Do you really want to watch it?

The gist of the film is that anyone who "dies" in an evil unlicensed beta video game dies in "real life." In the same manner. Even in the same position. That is really all that needs to be said about this foul-fest film with more producers than cast, "approved" for young teens so sayeth the MPAA. I will not spend valuable time discussing the plot any further.

The cast includes Jon Foster as Hutch MacNeil, Samaire Armstrong as Abigail, Frankie Muniz as Swink Sylvania, Sophia Bush as October Bantum, Jimmi Simpson as Phineus Bantum, Adam Goldberg as Miller and Milo Ventimiglia as Loomis Crowley.

In this film witchcraft is presented as a viable defense against evil and is a strong presence throughout the film. Speaking an incantation is given the power to cause death. [James 1:21, Rev. 22:14-15, Deut. 18:10 - 12] Profanity, including a single use of the most foul of the foul words, averages once every two minutes. God's name is used with the four letter expletive nine times and without it 13 times. [Deut. 5:11] The depths of sexual immorality to which this film for your middle school children is permitted to reach includes intercourse. Though no genitals are seen skin which is not normally seen is, and it shows him atop her in bed together. [Gal. 5:19]

There is so much more to the ignominious content of this film. Though I rarely make recommendations, I implore that you please scrutinize the listing in the Findings/Scoring section before you consider your family watching this clearly hardcore R-equivalent film.

CHAPTER/VERSE

  • James 1:21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
  • Rev. 22:14-15 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life [eternity in Heaven], and may enter in through the gates into the city [Heaven]. For without [outside Heaven] are dogs [animals], and [unforgiven] sorcerers [pharmakos: pertaining to the magical arts; those who practice evil magic including witches, warlocks, wizards, sorcerers, spiritists, diviners, necromancers, etc.], ...
  • Deut. 18:10 - 12 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: ... [God sounds so serious about embracing evil that it seems He would include embracing evil even in and as entertainment since it has been proven in so many ways that entertainment can and does influence deeply and contaminate values. Even God agrees with that. (see 1 Cor. 15:33).]
  • Deut. 5:11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. [Vain is shav' {shawv}: emptiness, nothingness, vanity, such as an expletive. With or without the four letter expletive, the use of God's name in any way other than respect, reverence or thoughtful discussion is in vain. That includes the popular three syllable sentence with His name trailing it AND the misuse of Jesus' name.]
  • Gal. 5:19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;

***Selected Scriptures of Armour against the influence of the entertainment industry***
  • Ps. 12:8 The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men [e.g., create progressively vile/offensive entertainment with impunity and no consequences to younger and younger audiences every year when enough people continue to defend it, embrace it, pay for it, enjoy it, want it].
  • Col. 2:8 Beware lest any man [by his influence] spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
  • 1 Cor. 15:33 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
  • Rom. 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
  • Jude 1:4 For there are certain men* crept in unawares [secretly slipped in among us], who were before of old ordained to this condemnation [whose condemnation was written about long ago], ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness [a license for immorality], and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. [*men: anthropos {anth'-ro-pos}, generic, a human being, whether male or female]
  • Matt. 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto [or for] one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto [or for] me.
  • Luke 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. [Offend: skandalizo {skan-dal-id'-zo} - scandalize; to entice to sin; to cause a person to begin to distrust and desert one whom he ought to trust and obey; to cause to fall away. I suspect "offend" includes sexually abusing the little ones. "Little ones": mikros - little;, small of age; younger which can include at-home teens].
  • Ps. 119:133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me [let no sin rule over me].
  • John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
  • 1 Thess. 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. ["Evil" includes all things that are sinful.]

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our more than eight years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings.
